“Racing The Storm” *LINK TO PURCHASE PRINT IN BIO & IN STORIES AS SWIPE UP* Most notable as the site of the Block Island Ferry, Galilee is also home to the largest fishing fleet in Rhode Island. This small fishing village on Point Judith is located within the town of Narragansett. The port of Galilee is responsible for transporting over 16 million pounds of seafood and shellfish each year! Early last July I was in need of a day trip so I packed all my camera gear and some snacks in my car before heading over to Rhode Island. I didn’t have a set plan but knew with storms rolling through I wanted to get near the shore in case of any dramatic skies to capture. I had never really shot much in this area so decided to make it my first stop and see where the day brought me after that. Not long after arriving I could see the clouds starting to get a bit darker and beach goers heading back to their cars. I started to hear rumbling in the distance and made sure I didn’t venture too far from my car in case things for sketchy. The clouds across the harbor got darker and were making their way across in my direction. A number of boats began cruising into the harbor as well to beat the coming storm. One of these boats in particular caught my eye with its brightly colored hull contrasting perfectly with the dark scene all around it. The seagulls swarming and flying around the boat added another amazing element to this image. I couldn’t have asked for a better sequence to start off my day and it always takes the pressure off when you get a keeper shot off the bat. Not long after I snapped this image the rain arrived and I took refuge in my car to wait it out while planning where my next stop would be. I couldn’t leave without grabbing a lobster roll from champlinsseafood next to me though.

“Coastal Flower Show” The coastal town of Narragansett, RI more than doubles in population during the summer months and a drive through here will quickly show you why. On a Monday last July I took an impromptu day trip to Rhode Island and ended up spending a good chunk of the day exploring this area. Ocean Road contains restaurant favorites like Monahan’s Clam Shack & Coast Guard House, but also some of the most incredible shoreline houses with ocean views and stunning gardens. I found parking so that I could walk close to two miles up and down this road scoping out photo ops while flowers here are in peak bloom. I came across a number of click worthy scenes, but while going through my images this one stood out to me to edit first. This beautiful house under such a dramatically moody sky would’ve held up on its own, but the layers of colorful flowers in the foreground really make this such an amazing composition. The mixture of bright orange tiger lilies, pink beach roses and everyone’s favorite hydrangea bushes, that were some of the most vivid of blues that I had ever seen. I’m heading to Narragansett this weekend for an overnight so if anyone has any recommendations for lesser known spots to photograph and/or stop for tasty food drop them in the comments below!

ᴘᴀᴛɪ-ᴏ ᴅɪɴɪɴɢ

Last Sunday we had the patio trionarragansett all to ourselves because it was chilly but I bet today it will be jamming with the “nice” weather. Was so happy to see a vegetarian main dish on their menu btw. (PS - Don’t think I didn’t devour half of that pizza too.)

A few other Narragansett rec’s from me:

1️⃣ We used to have breakfast crazyburgercafeandjuicebar all the time. If you’re a fan you’ll be happy to know they are open for carryout rn. (Also who remembers Bed & Bistro, their other restaurant/inn? I LOVED that restaurant!)

2️⃣ Of course the igloos coastguardhouserestaurant! We were there in January (and I over-shared here) but I hear now they are booked solid.

3️⃣ A few years ago I tried researching the Tower on Tower Hill Road but came up empty handed. Turns out there’s actually a sad love story connected to it. You’ll want to look up “Hannah Robinson Tower” (warning it is tragic) to get all the details.

4️⃣ And they have not opened yet for the season but Brickley’s on Boston Neck Road for ice cream 🍦.

I have waited and waited patiently for a sunrise session here at this infamous location. With conditions finally paralleling, I spent the night at the observatory in Charlestown, RI. Setting my alarm for 5:40am and then heading up Route 1 to the beautiful Narragansett coast. I was greeted by a sliver of color which shortly after exploded into an arrangement of colors!

Also, was a good time chatting it up with a local giving a bit of brief childhood memories. You never know what the universe has in store during these moments. I can almost guarantee that opening yourself to these experiences will parallel you more with likeminded people. Here I met a gentleman who made it a sacred practice to see sunrise from the same location for the past 30 years.
